A little History test
Primarily for my Grandkids, but anyone can play.
1) I am staying tonight in Seward Alaska. How is the name Seward forever linked to the state of Alaska?
2) What major event caused many people to move to Alaska in 1896?
3) What major event caused 139 people on the Kenai Peninsula (where I am now) to die in 1964?
Hint: 9.2
4) What other major news event occurred in Alaska, on March 24, 1989?
If you get all four right you get your subscription money back for this blog!
In an interesting side note to #4 above:
Procter and Gamble has a reputation in the business world for being a leader in the art of salesmanship. I don't know if they ever figured out how to sell ice cubes to Eskimos but I'm sure they have tried. (Maybe I can find out while I'm up here)
In an almost related attempt, Procter and Gamble is advertising on Pandora here in Alaska. Specifically, they are advertising Dawn Dish soap, but never mention dishes in the commercial. The entire point of the commercial is that it is the number one choice of marine biologists for cleaning oil off of birds feathers! Seriously!?!
I don't think the grandkids are going to get any of those!
ReplyDelete1) Is Seward where the Iditarod stats? I think it ends in Nome.
2) Probably some sort of gold rush. It was too early for an oil rush or free college for residents.
3) At 9.2, I'd say it has to be an earthquake, but at that strength, they probably got a pretty bad tsunami too.
4) Was going to say a volcanic eruption, but I don't remember any major ones from that time frame. So I cheated, and googled it. I can't believe the Exxon Valdez was that long ago!
