A Day on the Trail

It really was a laid back day. Didn't get up until 4:37!
Went back to sleep and tried again.
After breakfast and seeing Steven and Annie off we made preparations for a nice little hike across the valley.
First we drove up the highway to Ben and Niki's place (Niki is Scott and Bev's daughter and she works as a doctor at a small clinic. They also raise dogs and use them on sled teams. They have 8 dogs and appreciated Mom and Dad taking a couple of them for a walk).
After picking up Georgie and Hank we headed into the mountains to a trailhead at the South Fork of the Eagle River.
There were four of us with two dogs (early detection) and three cans of bear spray (late protection) so I, being the one without bear spray, tucked myself in between other members of the group.

The weather was perfect, the scenery was incredible and the trail was relatively flat and short. We did an out and back over a two mile route, with a picnic lunch at the turn around.

Spotted a White Crowned Sparrow. Huh, who knew, I thought it was a bird!
Then because we were so good we voted ourselves a round of root beer floats! All in all, a near perfect day!

  1. Jerry - read some where in here that you got something to put over your shoes. I just can't believe that you only have Tennis Shoes. Can't wait until you get back and over coffee here again about your trip. I check this AK49 thing every day. Had no idea that you were such a writer. Hey just a little bad news. It's about coffee - the little fat guy that sat next to me on the end - well Cancer got to him last Thursday. We put him in the ground this coming Wed at the VA Cemetery. Super nice religious guy, vietnam vet and motorbiker.
