A couple left overs
I had a few more pictures that I wanted to share, now that they have uploaded:
The crew called this a Sun Dog, Google calls it a Sun Halo, I call it pretty cool!
I told you that the Captain was pretty skillful in his handling of the vessel. He pulled up here for all the "birders" on board to get good pictures. He actually cut the distance in half after this picture was taken.
He had quite the sense of humor too. As he approached Holgate Glacier you could hear the pieces of ice crashing into the hull of the boat. He could sense that some were nervous so he told us a secret:
"Some of you may be a little nervous with all the ice we are running into. You maybe even are thinking about the "T" word. But we have an advantage that the Titanic never had. You see, the Titanic was made of steel. Our boat is made from re-enforced glass". Uh, define advantage again?
I wondered about this sign. We all know what the adult life jacket looks like. But what do immature life jackets look like?
This is Bear Glacier. It sits at the base of the Harding Ice Field, which is named after Warren G. Harding. I mention this so that I can mention this:
Gaston B. Means was a Secret Service Agent during the Harding administration who was later imprisoned for fraud in connection with the Lindbergh case. (There, now it wasn't so hard to fit that into the conversation was it? Only took 50 years!)

OMG, I laughed so hard I almost fell out of my Hepplewhite chair. Did you know that the basic characteristics of a Hepplewhite chair are the heart and shield shaped back with a abundance of curves?!
ReplyDeleteI'm crackin' up at the flashbacks.
